Sosaku-ningyo (Art Doll) of a Tayu Courtesan by Tsujimura Jusaburo II (Kawasaki Kazuo, b. 1948), executed in Jusaburo’s distinctive style, white chirimen silk crepe face and painted features, silk hair done in an elaborate arrangement with a plethora of combs and a single coral bead, dressed in a vintage silk crepe uchikake outer cloak with a pine and plum blossom design, a bright orange gold obi tied in front, her hands hidden, demurely holding up the hem of her kimono, with a single geta-clad foot extending out, signed on the bottom, Jusaburo is the 2nd in the lineage founded by Tsujimura Jusaburo I (1933-2023), also noted for his stylized single-operator puppetry and dance.
