Japanese Early Kokin-bina pair for the Girl’s Day Hina Matsuri celebration, early example of this seminal form in the history of hina-ningyo, the male shown in a formal black sokutai coat with lacquered eboshi cap and tall gauze ei tail extending straight up, the female dressed in a layered gown with an exceptional gauze train featuring bamboo and paulownia designs, simple crown, rich brocade textiles, red beni safflower trousers, both seated atop tatami dias, faces exceptionally well rendered with full cheeks, painted details, she with a fan and he with a scepter, 15” High, minor wear, overall excellent condition.
