Boy Girl Pair of Daki-ningyo (Huggable Dolls) by the celebrated Kyoto maker Ito Hisashige (Masuya Shogoro X, active Meiji era), delightful pair depicting an older girl and a younger boy with expressive faces featuring an open mouth expression with two prominent front teeth silk crepe tongues, inset glass eyes, lustrous human hair, pigmented gofun, daki-ningyo body construction with articulated wrists and ankles, well formed hands and feet, girl with rich silk crepe kimono featuring floral bursts, and inner hadajuban with susoyoke skirt, boy in multiple layers, felt inner momohiki pants, inner silk kimono of a blue ikat pattern and an outer striped kimono, both with white cotton bibs with ruffled sleeves, bearing seal of Ito Hisashige, minor staining, dent to girl’s abdomen, old repairs, overall fine condition, 22” High.
